Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) connects a farmer with a community of eaters in order to form a sustainable system for local food production and consumption. The CSA community pledges support to a farm operation, establishing a mutual support network that shares the risks and benefits of food production. Members benefit by having direct access to fresh, local food on a regular basis. Access to this produce at farmers’ markets and grocery stores can be hit-or-miss; by supporting a farm directly, CSA members are ensured access to a consistent supply of high quality produce, and can establish a connection with land and people that produced it. Members share in the rewards of a bountiful harvest but also share in the risk of farming. If harvests are low due to drought or flood for example, there are generally no refunds to members. This concept is called “Shared Risk.” This system develops connections and relationships between the farmer, the land and members, strengthening the local economy and the community at large.
If you were not a member last year and would like to be put on our mailing list for this year, please send us an email with your contact information. We send out order forms to new members at the end of February. We generally offer only a small number of new shares each year, so you’ll need to act quickly.
An assortment of delicious, organically grown vegetables delivered to convenient locations in Duluth, Superior, Esko, Cloquet and Wrenshall once a week for an 18 week season, mid-June through mid-October. Here’s a handy chart to give a rough idea of what comes in a Summer Share.
An assortment of delicious, organically grown storage vegetables (Potatoes, Carrots, Beets, Squash, Cabbage, Parsnips, Rutabagas, Onions) once a month from November through April (six months!)
We offer preserving quantities of tomatoes, green beans, fresh basil, juice-grade carrots, or dark greens (kale, collards and swiss chard).
POULTRY and EGG SHARES
(Available to those who purchase a summer or winter share)
The poultry share is five chickens and one turkey. We process all poultry on the farm and deliver fresh, chickens in mid-July and turkeys just before Thanksgiving. Turkeys are also available for purchase separately.
The egg share is one dozen eggs each week for the entire year.
Due to the availability of locally grown certified organic feed, poultry and eggs are not certified organic. They are raised outdoors on pasture (during summer and fall) and our feed source uses grain that is transitional to organic (grown without GMOs, herbicides or pesticides), and the feed does not contain antibiotics or growth hormones.
